Okay, so i spent yesterday morning in the clinic again treating an allergic reaction to raw eggs. I have succcessfully avoided my personal kryptonite for 22 years, and then in Greece I have two awful encounters within four weeks! What is going on here? I ate a piece of spanikopita, something I indulge in frequently in the States -- heck, I even make it at home a few times a month! It is a BAKED snack! So what was the problem? The Greek doctor and our hotel manager say that they don't bake it very long here in order to keep it 'moist.' Huh.
I'm pretty sure this was cooked, though, so now I'm a little concerned that I may be allergic to something unknown -- how can you avoid the unknown?
Grrrr. I feel gross and my dig-mates are pretty disgusted at the amount of raw egg we consume every day. For the first time this trip, I REALLY want to go home.

If you put your heart into keeping your food down, it will taste sweeter.
Microwave everything.
Wah! You've been to how many third world countries and never been sick?
Perhaps you're just better suited to living "Out of Africa" than heiress to a Greek shipping fortune.
On a side note, Easterns Motors (where your job's your credit) apparently is no longer using it's ubiquitous theme song and instead features a black man in an Indian head dress and red velour track suit in it's commercials. Because they just had to see if they could be worse.
thanks for the tips, tony. and nothing would cause an allergic reaction faster than the new Easterns Motors salesman...
PS -- I'd make a GREAT heiress to a greek shipping fortune, thank you very much! ;)
From the lady mildly allergic to all good food (zum Beispiel--chocolate, avocados, strawberries): Golly, I'm glad I don't have your severe reactions! I'd be a goner for sure.
If you're really concerned it might not be eggs, you can get allergy tests. But what odd thing could it be that you apparently don't otherwise encounter in your wide ranging grazing? Stick close to medical care for the time being.
